The heart of this enriching course lay in its immersive workshop, where students delved into the dynamic urban landscape of Madrid. Through a meticulously planned series of activities, the workshop aimed to provide students with a holistic understanding of urban design interventions. The first phase of the workshop comprised site visits to key architectural landmarks across the city. From iconic museum promenades to intricately designed office towers, students had the unique opportunity to witness the diversity of architectural styles and urban development strategies employed in Madrid.

Further enriching the experience, students engaged in the mapping of architecture case studies. This exercise involved a comprehensive exploration of notable architectural projects, analyzing their design principles, contextual relevance, and impact on the urban environment. By mapping these case studies, students developed a comprehensive understanding of the interconnectedness between architectural interventions, urban planning, and the socio-cultural dynamics of the city.

An integral part of the workshop was the interaction with renowned architecture experts and professionals. Through engaging dialogues and informative sessions, students were exposed to a wealth of knowledge about the thought processes, challenges, and innovations that shape the urban fabric of Madrid. The collaborative learning atmosphere fostered insightful discussions about real-world scenarios, enabling students to grasp the intricate nuances of urban design intervention.

What set this course apart was the unique opportunity it provided students to engage with Co-working Spaces such as Matadero, Palacio de Cibeles, Escuelas Pías, Google Campus, and UPM Library. Notably, several students had the privilege of collaborating with ITD UPM (Innovation and Technology for Development Centre at the Technical University of Madrid) and the cooperative of architects and designers known as ZULOARK. These collaborations extended to an urban furniture design workshop, where students worked in teams to develop ideas and construct functional pieces. This hands-on experience not only nurtured their creative abilities but also imparted practical skills in working with wood and using appropriate tools.

In conclusion, this workshop provided students with a unique blend of theoretical insights and practical exposure. It not only expanded their knowledge of urban design but also instilled in them a deeper appreciation for the role of architecture in shaping the urban experience. Through site visits, expert interactions, and mapping exercises, participants in the workshop gained a holistic perspective on the intricacies of urban design interventions in the vibrant city of Madrid.
